🍀 Happy ALMOST St. Patrick's Day! 🍀⁣
⁣
Looking for gluten-free Irish meals in Las Vegas? 🥘 In partnership with our good friends at ECOVE, we’ve got some answers for you! Check out 𝗡𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗜𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗺𝗲𝗻 @ 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗬𝗼𝗿𝗸 (for Shepherd’s pie, Lamb Stew, Colcannon Soup) and 𝗥𝗶 𝗥𝗮 𝗜𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗵 𝗣𝘂𝗯 @ 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘆 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗽𝗲𝘀 (where they offer delicious GF options like Potato Leek Soup, Top Chop, and Jameson Salmon).⁣
⁣
Craving a gluten-free beer to celebrate the day? 🍺 Try 𝗥𝗲𝗱𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗲, 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻'𝘀, and 𝗚𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗯𝗲𝗿𝗴 (which are made with 100% gluten-free ingredients) OR 𝗢𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻* (IF you can tolerate gluten-reduced beers under 10 ppm).⁣
⁣
We also contacted other Irish restaurants in Las Vegas (like McMullan Irish Pub), but unfortunately, they said they couldn't guarantee being able to accommodate people with Celiac Disease because of how busy they get during this week.⁣
⁣
SO, it’s Nine Fine Irishmen (for a more Traditional take on St. Patrick’s Day) or Ri Ra Irish Pub (if you crave a more modern, but equally yummy, gluten-free Irish meal). Which sounds best to YOU?⁣
⁣
Either way, let's raise a pint of GLUTEN-FREE BEER to St. Patrick and say THANK YOU to Ecove for putting all this together for us! 🍻🇮🇪 ⁣

Mrs. Bickel's! Gluten-free goodness delivered right to your doorstep!

Recently, we were contacted by Keeley Harkins from Mrs. Bickel's, an online, gluten-free, family-owned bakery located right here in Las Vegas, asking if we would like to try out some of their products. Um, YES, of course we would!!!

We sent Keeley our address, and the very next day we had a box of gluten-free goodies delivered right to our doorstep...talk about service! In the box, came a variety of baked, gluten-free deliciousness: COOKIES (Classic Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal, Snickerdoodle, Spice, Fudgy Vanilla Chip), RADICAL BROWNIES (Chocolate, Half & Half, Blondie), GALAXY BARS, 8" PIZZA CRUSTS, and a BIG PHAT BURGER BUN. We found out that several of their gluten-free desserts can even be ordered low-glycemic (on their website, you can choose to order low-glycemic or regular) and the ones we tried were the Oatmeal, Snickerdoodle, and Spice cookies, as well as the Galaxy Bar.

Oh my goodness, so much yumminess in one box! We tried to space out the desserts over a few days, to make them last (boy, that was tough). Overall, I would say my PERSONAL favorites were the Snickerdoodle Cookies and the Half & Half Radical Brownies (although the chocolate chip and fudgy vanilla chip cookies were really good too!!). My mom, Janet, and my husband, Ron, were both partial to the Radical Brownies (ALL the flavors). We also enjoyed the Galaxy Bar, after we heated it up in the microwave for about 10 seconds.

As of today, we still haven't had a chance to try either the pizza crusts or the burger bun yet, but we're really hoping to in the next week or so.

This wonderful, Las Vegas-based family of Celiacs has been striving since 1982 to make gluten-free "delicious and fun for everyone!" You can visit their online store at www.mrsbickelsglutenfree.com to see everything they have available. Mrs. Bickel's offers FREE shipping on orders of $50 or more, and here in Las Vegas they are even making safe, "socially-distanced" deliveries right now!!! During this time, there's not a whole lot in the world that we can count on, but some sweet, comfort treats delivered right to your door might be just what the doctor ordered. :-)

Mrs. Bickel's, mm-mm good!

Hi Lisa!

My family is back home, in Michigan, after a great trip to Las Vegas. We arrived Sunday, August 4. As I mentioned, my work put us up in the Aria, Monday through Wednesday. We then over to the Palazzo and stayed Thursday through Sunday..Who stays eight days in Vegas? We had a great time. We saw Cirque du Soleil Ka (loved it) and went to the Neon Museum (a highlight of our trip) and saw many other things. It was a wonderful work visit and vacation.  I will give you a run-down of all of our restaurant visits. NOTE: I have Celiac Disease as do our daughter and our oldest son, both of whom were with us on the trip. Our son and I are both extremely sensitive. He usually knows when he gets glutened within an hour. My wife has non-Celiac gluten sensitivity and usually knows right away. I am very sensitive but it can take a number of hours for me to know that I've been glutened.

Sunday:
Mon Ami Gabi: Steak Frites for me; Chicken Dinner for my wife; Onion soup for our daughter; chocolate mousse for everyone. The food was incredible and no one got glutened.

Monday: Breakfast for me at the Aria buffet. The chef came out and gave me the grand tour. He was really good and I ate safely. Cucina (Aria) by Wolfgang Puck for dinner: the staff there was exceptional; I don't remember what we all ate but I know that the three of loved our food and no one was glutened.

Tuesday: Aria breakfast buffet for me. No issues. Cucina for lunch with my wife and daughter; great food and no one got glutened. I ate at a work reception catered by the Aria. The food was great. I did not get glutened however they had a mix-up in my food and actually gave me something that had gluten in it but the chef caught it right away. We were in their convention center.

Wednesday: breakfast, lunch, and dinner for me were at the Aria convention center. No problems. My wife and daughter ate at PF Chang's at Planet Hollywood and had no issues.

Thursday: Yardbird Southern Table for late lunch with my wife and daughter. The food was amazing and we did not get glutened. Our son arrived late afternoon. The four of us had dinner at El Segundo Sol. The food was amazing and no one got glutened. None of us ever got glutened the whole trip. So, I'll stop saying that.

Friday: late lunch at Yardbird. We all had the fried chicken, fries, brussels sprouts and sweet tea (same as the previous day). Our son loved it. We were very full and went to Mon Ami Gabi for creme brulee, chocolate mousse, coffee, and wine for a light dinner.

Saturday: Strip Burger for a late lunch. Food was really good. Hecho en Vegas for guacamole and the tomato salad and chips and salsa. We really enjoyed it. It was nice that it was super close to Ka.

Sorry for all of the details. I thought you might appreciate the proof points --> two Celiacs for 8 days; 1 non-Celiac gluten sensitive; 1 Celiac for 3 days. none of us had issues and we all loved our food experiences. We don't have these sorts of options around home. It was a real treat for us.

Thank you for your tips. It really helped.

God bless.

Are you gluten-free but still experiencing symptoms? Then THIS Celiac Study from AB Clinical Trials might be for YOU!

The CeD-LA-3001 study is for adults at least 18 years of age who have been diagnosed with celiac disease and are still experiencing symptoms despite following a gluten-free diet. The purpose of this study is to see if the study drug reduces symptoms of celiac disease when taken with a gluten-free diet.

Do you qualify for the study? Check out the list below...
  • Are able to maintain a gluten-free diet during your entire study participation?
  • Are willing to follow a treatment plan of routinely scheduled study visits, lab tests, and other study procedures for the duration of the study (approximately 29 weeks)?

ReseT CeD Study...participants needed!

2/19/2019

There is a new study being conducted here in Las Vegas, and they are looking for participants. Here is the information I received via a few emails (I just combined the emails here for ease of reading), along with a scan of the brochure:

"My name is Rachael Sanman & I work for Dr. Atoya Adams in Las Vegas. We have a clinical trial currently enrolling new patients for a new, subcutaneous injection for patients with Celiac Disease...This study is the first of its kind - it uses an injection given twice per week (in our office for the first 12 doses, then a combination of at home & in office visits for the remaining injections) with the intention of increasing the threshold of reactivity when exposed to gluten & potentially to restore clinical tolerance to gluten....For this study, they need to have been diagnosed via biopsy, but having the blood test results is hugely beneficial as well. We will also need a copy of their medical records. If by some chance we cannot get the blood test result & the pathology report, the sponsor has been allowing participation if the patient can get their physician to write a letter confirming their diagnosis."

If anyone has any questions, they can contact Rachel directly at rcsabct@gmail.com

I was contacted by a research coordinator at the University of British Columbia at Okanagan named Alissa Smith who is helping run a study looking at the experience of living with celiac disease among diagnosed North American YOUTH. They are looking for participants between the ages of 12-25, diagnosed with Celiac Disease (they do not have to follow a strict GF diet to participate) to complete two online questionnaires that will take less than 30 min to complete (as a bonus, those who participate will get entered into a drawing to win 1 of 8 $50 iTunes cards).

Data collected is for research purposes only and will remain confidential. The study is being funded by the Kelowna Chapter of the Canadian Celiac Association. If you know someone who would be willing to participate, PLEASE have them contact Alissa at alissa.smith@ubc.ca.

THANKS!!!

Dr. Jen's Nutrition Bars!

10/19/2018

About a month ago, I was contacted by Dr. Jen Marone, a chiropractor and health professional located right here in Las Vegas, who also happens to be gluten intolerant, asking if I would be interested in sampling her new ULTIMATE PROTEIN BARS. Not only are they gluten-free, they are also vegan, soy-free, corn-free, high in fiber, non-GMO, and low in sugar, with no artificial flavors OR preservatives!!! On top of all that, they are packed full of a bunch of healthy superfoods, like quinoa, kale, spinach, and pea protein. Sounds too good to be true, right?!?! That's what I thought. But, shockingly, they actually TASTE GREAT too!!!!!
Picture
And because of all that whole food goodness, they keep you feeling full and satisfied for a long time. The bars are super smooth and creamy; and, best of all, there is none of that weird after-taste, like you get with so many other "healthy" protein bars out there. Even my husband, who does NOT have to be gluten-free, LOVES these bars!!

Right now, there are 2 flavors available via their website: "
Double Chocolate Almond" and "Double Chocolate Peanut Butter," and Dr Jen mentioned that they are in the process of prototyping even more flavors that will hopefully be available soon!

Be sure to check them out and let me know what you think! :-)

My Pie in Las Vegas!!

Hey everyone! Wanted to let you know about a fantastic new option for GLUTEN-FREE PIZZA here in Las Vegas that just opened! It’s called My Pie, and it’s located in the Centennial Shopping Center at 7930 W Tropical Pkwy #130, 89149. Went for the first time last night, and it was AWESOME!

Got to meet the owner, Robert Lee, and spent a lot of time talking with the general manager, Buddy Wagner, who was a former sous chef on the Strip and is very knowledgeable regarding gluten-free and the concern for possible cross-contamination. We went over their process when you ask for a GF pizza (AND you let them know it’s because you have Celiac or an allergy, and not just because of a preference), and I was really impressed with the procedures they’ve put in place. They changed their gloves, had separate screens for the GF pizza dough (the gluten-free dough is kept SEALED until it’s used), had special wooden paddles used only for GF pizza, had one pizza sauce bin that is ONLY used for GF pizza, got made-to-order toppings from under the counter (instead of the ones on the line) just to be safe, cooked the GF pizza a bit longer than the regular pizza (5-min as opposed to 2-min at 800 degrees, knowing, as we all do, that sometimes GF crust can be soggy and chewy in the middle if not cooked enough), etc, etc!! I was super impressed with everything, and the pizza was REALLY good! They even carry a gluten-free, dairy-free, nut-free brownie you can get for dessert (it’s definitely not sugar-free though, which is probably why it tasted so dang AMAZING)!!! LOL And all the prices were really reasonable...even with the $2.25 up-charge for GF crust, my pizza was just over $10. That’s it!!! All sauces (except for Alfredo) are gluten-free, as well as all their toppings (except for the obvious meatballs).

As usual, we will plan to go a few more times before we can add them to our recommended RESTAURANT LISTINGS page of our website, but I feel super comfortable saying I was really impressed and I encourage you to check them out!! Please remember, however, that it is not a 100% gluten-free facility, and they obviously have regular pizza and regular flour on site as well. So use your own best judgment knowing your particular issues and concerns. But personally, I thought they took a ton of precautions, and I did not get sick at all (those who know me, know I am quite sensitive to ANY cross-contamination).

Thank you, My Pie Pizza (Las Vegas, NV), and welcome to Vegas!! 😁👏🏻🍕

New Clinical Trial for Las Vegas Celiacs!

Picture
I received an email this weekend from someone named Tanesia Cross from AB Clinical Trials here in Las Vegas, asking if I could let people know about a new clinical trial they are starting for those 18 and older with Celiac Disease. Please note, I do not have any more information on the actual company or their trial, other than what is listed below, so I cannot specifically endorse your participation one way or another. But, the contact info is below if anyone wants to check into it!

We are a clinical trial office that is geared to providing help to all patients. Dr. Adams and her staff cares for the well being of their patients and will help provide a safe and caring environment. We are starting trials for subjects who have Celiac disease 18 years old and up. Can you add us to your group so that those who need the help and want to participate will be able to contact us. They will need to undergo additional tests and procedures to see if they qualify for the study. This study is to evaluate an investigational medication to measure the safety, tolerability and efficacy of the treatment. As a qualified participant, they will receive all study-related care, study medication, monitoring devices at no cost. They may be reimbursed for travel and other expenses if they qualify.

Warm Regards,

Tanesia Cross
